Written by one of Wales' foremost historians, John Davies, author of "A History of Wales" and illustrated by the wonderful photos and graphics by Marian Delyth, "100 Places" takes you to both the well known and the more or less obscure. Originally written in Welsh and winner of the Year Award for 2010 it is now available in English translation. This book takes off from the plethora of "places to go and things to do (and even beers to try) before you die" books. John Davies has opened new ground for both the native Cymro/Cymraes and the Welsh of the diaspora and their descendents. The jacket description summarizes the book well: "From Anglesey to Monmouthshire, from Pembrokeshire to Flintshire, John Davies and Marian Delyth have travelled the length and breadth of Wales on our behalf." The first pages offer a map showing the location of the 100 places located throughout Wales. The choices range from the very ancient such as Tre'r Ceiri in Llyn to the very modern such as the Centre for Alternative Technology in Llwyngwern and the modern architecture of Cardiff Bay. It is also an excellent book to sit down with to recall your visits to Wales and count how many of the 100 places you have already been to - and how many you still need to visit! This older book still holds relevance for today, as the author takes scientific fact and makes a strong case for the it being consistent with Biblical truths. Rehwinkel is a compelling author who states his case clearly and forcefully. Those who depend on secular interpretations of science will likely see this as "Creationist drivel," and therefore not read it, but sill have lots opinions about it, while fundamentalist Christians may feel they already know this. I would recommend it to both.

This is one of the best books on this subject I have read. It is easy to read and the explanations it gives and the reason behind them are so simple that you can almost see what the reader is saying. You can just imagine seeing an animal or human going about their day and all of a sudden get swept up in a total earthly tidal wave with nowhere to go but exactly where they are. Gives you a totally believable insight into how the whole earth could be totally consumed with water and everything destroyed and the earth's surface completely changed.

I really enjoyed reading this. Rehwinkel made questions clear to me regarding the Flood. It is a good read for the scientific reader, as well.

Outstanding explanation of the Flood and the significance of the first 11 chapters of Genesis. It is so sad that the world is so deluded about the importance of these chapters in Genesis. God could have created the entire universe in an instant had He chosen to do so, but He took 7 days for a reason. By the same token, there is NO WAY IN THE WORLD that evolution could have done even in 4.6 billion years, what God could have done in an instant. Satan doesn't want us to know how Awesome God is, How BIG He is, and he sure has most of the world fooled. How do we have sexes? Where did language come from? How did thought evolve? Where is the "missing link"? Evolutionists have no explanation. I have read MANY similar books on the subject (another great author is John Ashton). Neither Evolution nor Creation according to the Bible have been observed so both must be accepted on faith. Evolution is the religion of Satan, sad to say. Joshua 24:15 As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

This book is awesome! I went through the book with my two kids. The older one is always very good with math, the examples are easy to understand, the practice problems are effective in validating the learnings. He was able to go through the book on his own most of the time right before he started 6th grade. My younger one isn't as fast when it comes to math. In the past, I had tried to teach him Algebra, it was challenging for him to understand. When he's half way through 6th grade, I started to go over the problems with him in this book. It took a bit more explanation from me to go over the problems. After he finished up the book, I saw significant improvement in his ability in solving algebra related problems in his school math work. I highly recommend this book.

This book is a boon! Why don't more American math teachers teach like this? If you are in need of learning how to do algebra word problems, this is a MUST BUY book. Simply tremendous! Mildred and Tim Johnson have shown me once again that math is not as difficult as you think it is, so long as you have masterful teachers/tutors showing you how to effectively do it! I have discovered that math is beautifully consistent and logical. There is a method to it. So long as you know how to properly diagnosis a given problem, and drill it until is becomes cemented into your head, it's really not "that bad" at all! Best buy of the year!

My 10 yo enjoys this book. I can say it gives me some parenting relief as either asking for help or getting help from Dad is starting to feel wrong. Well most of his issues are covered with, "Did you read the problem fully, and did you write down your work"? (Nope! He's 10.) Outside of that there's now this less embarrassing book, and then Dad (He can also invoke Mom, but only in the darkest hours). Learning to solve problems with good examples and explanations when you need it is a key learning issue for everyone. Even more so if you consider the step-wise progression of math. This book does it well and is a helpful learning tool as such. Never feel bad about adding more explanations to your learning and buy this book and others if it helps. A good web search can also bring in other resources. Best of luck in your learning!

Wow this is exactly what I needed! I have gone through probably 10 math books and this is one of my favorite. It is my favorite because I am studying for the ASTB. On the ASTB there are a lot of distant=ratextime type word questions. There is 196 pages that are the size of half a computer sheet of paper. The size font is about 12-14 so you can have an idea of how much is on each page.There is a whole chapter about 17 pages (34) for rate questions. Examples are very well explained, written explanation and wrote out mathematically.Chapter 1- numbers2- time, rate, distance3- mixtures4- coins5- age6- levers7- finance8- work9- plane geometric figures10- digits11- solutions using two unknowns12- quadratics13- miscellaneous problem drillThere is a lot of great information in here for those taking the ASTB. idk about other tests never took them.This books is a great buy!

I really enjoy this little book. For one thing, I remember my ninth grade algebra class some 60 years ago. Story problems were hard for me to grasp back then. This book makes things so much more clear and easy to understand and I am sure it makes my student friends' lives much easier. Of course, this book is also great if you are studying for other types of test outside of school. I also enjoy just sitting and reading it. The problems seem so easy now and fun, but they didn't start that way.

The homeschool book we used for our daughter for Algebra had only 4 word problems in it. She definitely needed a more in depth look at these as they are extremely important (My mother is a mathematician and picked the Algebra book and was shocked there were hardly any word problems! ). We loved this book as it breaks down the word problems so kids will be able to understand them. My daughter and I work through them with me giving her the problem and letting her use what she has previously learned to write out the equation and solve. I use the book as a step by step process to help her write (rewrite) them correctly (if needed). There are more word problems in this book than any I have seen and describe/teaches how to solve for all different kinds. I recommend this book regardless of how you are educating your child to help them become strong at solving word problems.

I couldn't put this book down and three hours later finished with it .... I wanted to read something light today and so searching I ran into this book .... more than the book it was the authors story that grabbed my attention, she was pursuing her CA studies at a point and gave it up to do what she always wanted to do, write a book :) .... From unexpected places come gold. This book dropped my jaw. The concept of acquired savant like abilities as well as information about medications and diet that are well worth the book. My money was well spent. Grade A.

A really easy read. Love the content.

Very disappointed by this book. The claim is that the abilities of synesthetes will in some way be available to us mere mortals ( or the more politically correct neurotypicals) so that we can be ultimately smarter. Synesthetes are people who hear colors or tastes sounds, for example. We are introduced to people who became this way by virtue of some damage at birth, or by virtue of some physical trauma, a blow to the head, for example. Well, it turns out that the ideas presented as ways to achieve synesthete-like awesomeness, like improve memory, etc. are mostly all old hat. For example, the mnemonic suggestions to improve memory have been around for as long as I can remember (tee hee), going back to Harry Lorraine and Jerry Lucas' books. We are also told about how the mind can solve problems during sleep, the way Kekule came up with the benzine ring. Again, "sleeping on it" as a way to come up with ideas and problem solve has been around forever (or maybe longer). We are also offered ways to quickly multiply large numbers. I've got one too - my calculator. And then we are shown how we can name the day of the week for any date of any year, an unbelievably useful skill. Throughout we are bombarded with descriptions of neurobiology, brain scans, retinas and other body parts located above the neck that help us think and create. We are also presented with some futuristic solutions way out on the horizon, some of them extremely speculative and very risky. Sorry, but I'll stick with the mediocre mush currently in my skull exactly as it is. To sum - a lot was promised but very little was delivered.

Awesome read. She did a good job of writing it in a way that's easy to understand for people like me who dove into it without any prior knowledge in the subject.

I was actually looking for a particular book when I came across "The Superhuman Mind." After reading the first three chapters, I immediately purchased a copy, and I am so grateful that I did. Thank you for a book well written. I have learned a great deal.

Pretty interesting book. It touched on a lot of subjects and briefed many different kids of "superhuman" abilities. Definitely a good read and a solid 4 stars.
