Warning: Do not start reading this book, or Air Awakens, if you have things that need done or need to be up for work in the morning!Obviously I had trouble putting either book down and it left me short on sleep! These books are amazing! The characters are well-rounded, obviously well thought out and well written. They are also human with all the foibles, failures and joys we go through. It is very difficult to believe the author is just starting her career! To understand everything going on you need to read the books in order, which means starting with "Air Awakens". Be prepared, however; Book three won't be out until Feb '16 and you may have a hard time waiting patiently for the next book. I know I will be waiting anxiously and impatiently for Feb. I'll just have to keep re-reading books 1 & 2!

Some people were disappointed with this next installment of the Air Awakens series, and I suppose I can understand why even if I don't share the sentiment. From the way things were set up in book #1 and the way the cover and blurb were set up, it seemed like this book would bring us into the war and fighting and all that stuff and start getting a faster, action-packed pace.Instead, the pace in book #2 is much like that of book #1 in the sense that the author is taking the time to use the events occurring during the army's march to the North to give substance to the story with lots of scenes and details added in, building up the story with content that draws in readers for a more immersing, intense experience instead of just jumping from one major plot event to the next. This is something I personally like because I always chose content over rapid-fire pacing. I'd much rather have time with the characters to grow to care about them than to get into a series that smooths over this stuff just to move quickly ahead with the major plot developments, so I think this slower pace soaked with information and character development and all that good stuff is commendable and works very well for me as a reader. The author also really focuses on Vhalla and Aldrick as people and their relationship in this book, which I personally really wanted to read about a lot since book #1 just touched on this and didn't give me the fully satisfactory relationship developments I wanted. There's also ample time dedicated to the side characters, which is nice, because while I would love constant Vhalla + Aldrick time to sate the sappy romantic in me, it's the mark of a good writer to be able to breathe life into secondary characters and allow them time to exist for more than just ultra-convenient purposes and I can appreciate this. I wouldn't call book #2 a set up book like #1 was, but you definitely are seeing a build up to the actual war and Vhalla coming face-to-face with fighting on a true war front. There's training and marching and dealing with the rift between sorcerers and non-sorcerers, for example, and a good amount of time is dedicated to Vhalla dealing with the effects of her trauma and experiences, her nightmares and feelings and internal turmoil. As I'm sure you can tell, part of why I loved this book was all the time dedicated to Vhalla and Aldrick; there's tension and turmoil and doubt and lots of feelings and both of them struggling with stuff but eventually coming together and trying to get a handle on what it means to love one another and be together all while Aldrick is the crown prince and Vhalla is a war-tool that belongs to the crown. It's an interesting insight into Aldrick to be in all these scenes with Vhalla, you get a sense that he understands well that he needs to put on a mask as a crown prince, but he drops this in front of Vhalla to reveal to her his regrets and sorrows and loneliness and all those soft, secret feelings he could show and share with no one out of fear he'd be rejected or misunderstood or have someone use them against him somehow. It's also interesting to watch Vhalla deal with all this and enter into a world where she has to be secretive and quiet about her affections and deal with separation and denial and tell lies because of the vulnerability she creates within Aldrick and the wrath of the emperor they could bring down upon themselves for their mutual love and respect. I'm actually really liking how this all unfolds because we're not hit with "instant love" that's more or less just extreme physical attraction and we're not presented with a perfect relationship: they both struggle and doubt and feel sadness and hurt and jealousy and shock and they're floundering, trying to find their barrings in an emotional territory neither of them has ever been through before, but the sincerity and feelings are all there. I prefer to read about this kind of romance because it feels natural and gives me enough time to believe through their scenes together that this is genuine. Also, one big kicker that I'm sure saddened or enraged many was the abrupt and intense cliffhanger. It was brutal to be honest. But since I cleverly waited until all the books were released, this isn't really an issue for me since I have book #3 sitting right next to me ready to be opened and read as soon as I finish typing my review for book #2.All in all, this is my favorite book so far. I enjoyed reading it and polished it off in a single sitting, though at times I had to take a break to let things sink in for a moment before continuing. I think this was a worthwhile installment in the story and it generally felt pretty whole too; some big conflicts were resolved, we had a nice climax, and now book #3 will take us into the next arc which I'm assuming is the true, full blown war effort. The cliffhanger doesn't give you a nice wrapped up ending looking towards the next book, but I think from that period on you can fully say Aldrick and Vhalla are in the midst of a war and will be dealing with a new slew of problems that come along with being important figures in said war. I'm excited for book #3, but also a little nervous because I can't help but fear that there will be more turmoil and conflict before there's smooth sailing and any sign of a happy ending in sight.

Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, this book..(tears fall down from eyes) is really SOMETHING. Perfect. People DIE, no mercy,(hello blood) just straight up raw emotions. Characters FIGHT like never before. AND THE ACTION IS ON POINT. Romance is turned UP, just splendid, just...omg...omg..Beautiful. This book will make you cry, so much stuff happens and the ending just screwed me over. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK.!!! I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. This whole series was my gateway. Aldrick is sexy as hell, just everything about him is just amazing. Where are guys in my generation like that? This guy will really be down for you and hold you down!!!! He has a heart and the way he loves and cares about Valla is breathtaking. Valla is my girl, she is a beast and fierce heroine, she is the real deal. Laurel is extremely sweet and lovable.. And the rest of the characters are real, alive, the author brings them to life. Every character is meaningful and has aPurpose. And the action, fighting scenes I loved it, I loved It, I loved it. A perfect blend. However, there are some shocking parts that will make you cry. Or die. This story is just that deep. Great writing. There better not be a movie, I don't want them messing up this piece up this of literature. I'll stick with the books.

#6,888 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I was drawn in from the very first book. By the time I made it to the third book, I had cried and felt more emotion than I had my entire life. While I'm way past being a teenager, I am a survivor. I would recommend this book, as well as the whole series, to every survivor and everyone who loves them.I wanted to give a much lower rating due to the fact this third book was lousy with punctuation and missing words, causing the reader to have to re-read and insert missing words and punctuation to make it make sense. Also, at times, the Emma character is wearing something strapless, but in the next paragraph of page, his straps were being lowered. The same thing with Meg and Emma playing the "Name that band/song" game they play.I felt this final book was rushed and could have easily been more completed, probably into a fourth book. You are left with a feeling of, "wait, what about..." But the story is good! Extremely Good....

I love him more than he will ever know. And because of that, I choose his happiness. So the first book had me hook from the start. The second had me speechless and saying wtf at the ending. Then this one had me in tears and unable to breath when it all came to and end. Out of all the books I have read there’s only been a handful of REALLY emotional, addicting, suspenseful, draining, and high quality books read, and this is one of them. I don’t know how to explain it, kinda like something top rated. It just pulls you in from the beginning, right to the very last page of the last book.I was so emotional through the whole book and unsure how it was all going to end.Emma was truly a living wreck. She wasn’t the same anymore as she once was. Honestly she was depressed, hurting, and broken. After all the abuse and trauma she went through holding in major secrets, along with all the nightmares and memories became to much for her. It was kinda like having a breakdown. She was turning more to destruction than good. Trying to numb it all, not wanting to deal with it anymore, wishing she could just forget it all.So in the beginning for a while I was in a slight slump missing Evan. You have Cole, and yes he was nice, and I did feel bad, but for me he just WAS. NOT. EVAN! I was even feeling depressed myself, lol like I was going through a loss. Once Evan was back in action, lol back in the picture, I was so happy. One thing out of it all that I, will say I am thankful for, is the number one main people she still has in her life. I just love, how she still has Sara as a good friend. She’s someone that has never and would never give up on Emma and will fight till the end for her. Even when apart she’s always thinking about her and looking out for her.“You can't keep pushing everyone away." She stood up from the chair, her body tense. "You can't keep doing this, because one of these days, you'll wake up and have no one.”“Evan Mathews, you can tell yourself and everyone else that you’re here to get answers, for closure. But the truth is, you love her. You have always loved her. You will always love her. You’re here because you can’t walk away. You saw how broken and empty she was back in Weslyn, and you had to follow her. You’ll never be able to let her go. You’re here because… it’s where you belong, with her.”Then you have Sara’s parents, they truly are the best and care for her so much. They also look out for her and are there for whenever they’re needed. She might not be their daughter but they would do anything for her.Evan is also the same way. Even though she hurt him he would do anything for her, just to see her happy. If something had ever happened to Emma, I don’t think he would even know how to survive. And of course I just love Evan, he’s the most perfect person ever to even come along.“That day… of my run. I almost gave up.” My heartbeat picked up. “I walked out into the ocean, and just kept going. I wanted it to take me. To drown the guilt. I didn’t want to hurt anymore. I didn’t want to be hated anymore. I didn’t want to keep breathing.” Her words stole the air from my lungs. “Emma.” She crumpled onto her knees. I caught her, wrapping her in my arms. “You don’t get to quit on me. Because if you do, you’ll take me with you. And you can’t do that to us.” Tears stung my eyes as she collapsed against me. “I can’t…” Her voice broke. “I can’t do this anymore.” “Then I’ll do it for you,” I rasped, my throat closing. “Let me love you. Let me love you enough for the two of us, until you can accept that you’re worth it. Because you are, Emma. I don’t know how to convince you. But I’ll spend the rest of my life trying. You can’t give up on me now. I won’t let you.”Im also glad and thankful for the roommates that she does have, some people wouldn’t be as nice as they were to her. It was really great to see how they cared and looked out for her as a friend, just as much as Sara did. I really think it made Sara feel a little better knowing that she had someone there for her when they were apart. A lot of it was just as hard for Sara too. Seeing how Emma was getting through each day and how she had changed was very upsetting and worrying to her. Sadly without her few friends, Sara’s parent, and Evan, I don’t think Emma would of ever survived it all.“I don’t understand. You still… love me?” He released the slightest chuckle. “Yeah, I do. And I know you’re not the same girl. But I’m in love with you, Emma. I fell in love with you all over again this summer. People change. I know this. And we’ll continue to change. That just means I’ll get to fall in love with you again. Because no matter what happens in our lives, what I feel for you will survive anything.”So you can see this isn’t a series you want to pass up. It really is one of the best and is one I will never forget.

I wanted to read this entire series before I wrote my review. I tried to understand why people gave this book any bad reviews but I'm drawing a blank here. First of all, you need to understand this series rips you apart and wrenches tears from your eyes throughout the majority of the story. Secondly, please understand this author leaves a lot up to the reader's imagination. You won't receive a blow by blow description of every sex scene or bit of violence. This story puts you in the victims shoes so when she reaches unconsciousness, the author ends the scene. I think that kind of writing is brilliant. Plus I have gotten soooo tired of overly-descriptive sex scenes. Thirdly, see my second point before you get mad at the ending. Readers will find out what happened at the end of the first novel when the author gives you a glimpse into another character's point of view in the third. The main characters are beautifully flawed, like we all are. Finally, I truly experienced not one dull moment in this novel. If you are the type that needs bombs, guns, or a lot of action, this book might not be for you. If you appreciate the artistry behind a well thought out character, the beauty of struggle, or a story that makes you truly feel emotions, read it. I wanted to comment on some of the negative reviews of this book by stating that we are a product of our environment. No one taught her how to cope so it makes sense that she attempted what she had seen. She hurts people but she's honest about how defective she is which makes me like her. The point of view changes were necessary in the last novel to help fill in gaps in the main character's memory and to understand the wide range of damage. The only thing that bothered me about this author was her ignoring grammar rules. I lost count of the number of sentences she started with "but".

5 Emotional Stars - This is the third book in the series. A little slow to start with till you get back into the story of Emma and Evan. Emma has moved to California to start a new life at a new college and to work through her internal struggles. She lives with her friends who know what she has been going through and are very protective and supportive of Emma. She meets Cole who is willing to take baby steps with Emma who swears to never fall in love so they are technically not dating. Emma never wants to "feel" again. Evan comes to California to stay with mates for his break and to try and get some answers from Emma as to why she just up and left. I found Emma to be a very emotional person who cries a lot and everyone tip toes around her emotions. A well written book which I really enjoyed.
