I bought this book as a gift for my husband along with some gardening tools. He LOVES this book! We have lots of deer on our property who even eat plants and shrubs that are supposedly deer resistant, so there is no way that we want to plant those that are deer candy! At any rate, not only does this book have excellent information about the plants that deer don't eat, but it also gives you ideas about the plants similar to the one you are researching that go well with it. It makes it very easy to plan a garden with this book, even for the beginning gardener. That being said, it is great for advanced gardeners as well. My husband is pretty particular when it comes to books, and has many other gardening books, but this has become his favorite. He is very impressed with how thorough and well organized the book is. Highly recommend!.

I purchased this book as a gift for my brother who loves gardening on his acreage in the Hill Country. However, he struggles with the deer who roam through his property eating much of what he grows unless it is fenced. He likes the book'scategories, like ferns & bulbs, & wants to use the book to select better seeds for his wildflower border on the road to his property. He was most impressed with the categorization up to 10 of how deer resistant a plant was.

I have a lot of deer that roam through my back yard so wanted to learn what I could plant that would be deer resistant. This book gave me some valuable insight in what to plant. I realize it's no guarantee that the deer won't eat something, but I'm hopeful the ideas in the books work. I backed up these suggestions with buying a deer repellent spray. So crossing my fingers that all of my plants/flowers will survive this year.

It has been a very useful guide when I am advising my gardening clients. I also like that it suggests good plant combination in different settings and lights.

I bought this book after checking it out from the library and wanted my own copy. I wish it would have strictly focused on perrenials instead of splitting it up with annuals included. I'm not as concerned with inexpensive annuals but it's a minor complaint. Overall a good reference if you live in deer country like I do.

Good read. Worth the time/money spent. Definitely some plants I will try from this book, though I'm not really a fan of any of the shrubs listed.

With each trip to Germany, my family finds that our German classes just aren’t providing what we need. Thank goodness for “What They Didn’t Teach You in German Class.” Since my husband travels with his laptop and needs to keep in touch with his office, the terminology and information provided in the “Talking tech” chapter is very valuable and will allow him to communicate and find wifi connections easily.Traveling with my teenagers, we have seen all the “typically German” young people described, and these explanations will help us navigate the people we meet on our next trip and help them determine the kids they may want to hang out with. My son is into sports, and we go to Germany with “see a soccer game” at the top of his list. The chapters, “Sports and Games” and “The National Team” is all we need to at least get to the game and speak a bit to people sitting next to us. After that, the game is all we need. There will be chapters you might not need in “What They Didn’t Teach You in German Class” – but what you need is surely there.

As the title states, this is not a book for beginning to speak German. This book is a great book for anyone that is going to be traveling or spending anytime in a German speaking country or with someone who only speaks German. The format is easy to read and looking up a term you may need in conversation is easy to find. I really like that there is a grammar review for readers to refresh the memory. This is a book full of naughty phrases and R-rated content. My 13-year old bought it to give to his sister for a present for her upcoming exchange trip ... it has to go back! BEWARE that the language is not appropriate for all ages.

This book is the PERFECT book for anyone who wants to speak german when... they're actually in Germany. I don't know about you, but our german professor never taught us how to ask for a proper pint, or how to ask a gentleman caller up for a night cap ;) Want to hook up with a dude? No problem - einen kerl abschleppen. Say that 10 times fast and maybe it will actually happen? What I love about this book is that it also has tips or reasons why a translation is the way it is. It should come as no surprise to anyone that "grab the bong" aka die blubber holen's translation of blubber comes from the blub blub sounds when you smoke a bubbler. These translations are absolutely hilarious and the tips and explanations for translations are the best. It even has something for the mean girl in everyone - because as the book mentions, spend enough time in germany and you'll find a few ugly folks too ;) This book will teach you a thing or two but also have you cracking up the entire time. It is so funny and dead on.

But the stories are not that harrowing as to be of much interest to the casual reader of adventure.This collection of stories spans over 100 years of things that occured (some behind the scenes some very public) in the Rocky mountain National Park. Bear attack, elk kill, fall rescues, road building, flood disasters. Its a small book. And the individual stories are quite short. The facts are presented straight forward without much jounalistic color.

Great history of Rocky Mountain NP, with some rare anecdotes.

This "book" has no page numbering! How am I supposed to find a recipe I liked again? I can only use so many sticky notes before there are too many to be helpful. And it goes without saying that there is no index of recipes, since there’s no way to refer to them. One chapter contains 100 recipes which are at least grouped as Soups, Salads, Entrees, etc, but they’re not even in alphabetical order. In the chapter listing two weeks of suggested menus, the recipes are listed after the menus but are in a totally random order unrelated to their order in the menus. I could number all the pages and create my own index, but it would be easier just to look up recipes on the internet. I give the book two stars because it does contain some useful content, but it is too difficult to use as a reference. Buy the Kindle edition instead.Although the printed book has an ISBN number, no publishing house is listed, only that it is made in the USA (Middletown, Delaware). If I were the publisher, I wouldn’t want my name associated with this “book” either.

I have read and re-read all the previous books in this series, so there were definitely aspects of this book that I loved. I absolutely adored Olivia and I appreciated catching up with the storylines from previous books (though I would have enjoyed seeing Penny and Ian in this story, just like I enjoyed seeing Sophie host Penny's baby shower in Baby Makes Three).What I did not like at all was the irritating use of gender-neutral pronouns in regards to Deja and Holli's baby. If this is truly a "thing", I think it's just dumb. And if this is becoming the norm in certain parenting communities, that's fine but I'm not part of that community and I will not be adopting those standards.Along that line, the fact that Sophie is so aggrieved that the world won't accept her personal romantic choices got old. Woe is her. She has two gorgeous, incredibly rich men who fulfill her every desire and she wants the whole world to know and accept her situation. Boo hoo.Lastly, I didn't care for the dangling thread of the Lawrence threat. Twice he showed his true colors, the second time actually threatening Olivia's custody and the book ended with no resolution.This was my least favorite of the series; I even skimmed the sex scenes because they just weren't that captivating (at least the ones in Venice and on the yacht). I thought the trip to Michigan was only mildly interesting. I loved Sophie's mom, Olivia and the two scenes where Deja and Holli appeared together with Sophie. I really hope there's another book coming to keep the story going.

I always love these books. They are so well written and I love to see where we are going with these 2, now 3 fun and interesting people!On one hand, I love it and I love to live this different lifestyle choice through these people. On the other, a more realistic hand, I don't see how this is going to work. In all reality, how many 3 partner families do you know? I believe their wealth helps tremendously, I mean there would be so many other problems if not for that. It causes them to be insulated to some prejudice, not all. Also, when considering raising Olivia in that type family, does that ever work well? I'm not sure how I would feel if my daughter left my ex and his new young wife to raise my grandchild with a 3rd member in their marriage. Also, what about the ex of El Mudad's? Will she let him have custody?Oh well, I guess that's why we are looking forward to book 8! We'll probably explore all of those issues and more! Again, it is so fun to live a different lifestyle in a book! Keep them coming!

I loved this series and I thought this book would be as wonderful as the rest. It was very anticlimactic. I thought it would bring the love between Sophie, Neil and El-Mudad to the forefront and watch the growth between them all after fighting to be together. Sophie is too self absorbed. Everything is about her. If a bit more research was done, Abigail Barnette would have known that when two people of three are married there is a binding of hearts ceremony that can be performed by a pastor or reverend (not catholic) to seal them together. There is an exchange of rings between all three. They all wear two rings; one on the right hand and one on the left that are maybe different in color on each hand, representing which partner. Anyway, it would be nice to see something like this happen in a book, it would explain it better for those who do not realize that their relationship is not as rare as it's being made to sound. However, so many things remained unanswered. Olivia and how they grow as a family. Valerie and Laurence and the threat by Laurence over custody, as well as how do El-Mudad’s daughters become a part of their lives and how do both families blend into each others lives. Abigail Barnette wrote this like she was tired of the series. Her writing is good, but the substance is lacking.

Sophie and Neil have been favorites of mine since the beginning. Sure he's a billionaire with a title. I can't even get over how they spend spend spend. But their struggles are what makes this very hot series sing. Their sex life may be off the charts, but then they aren't exactly the picture of perfect health either. So as this series continues, I look forward to Abigail Barnette's announcements and then just simmer down and wait.

Although I was immersed in every chapter, it felt shot and dare I say...not as special or just an means to an end. But what happened with the threat Lawrence made to take Olive away? Sophie's aunt kept her phone at the wedding. Did she see the video recording of Sophie and El-Mudad on it? Did Sophie grow her back bone and stand up for herself when she needed to? Did the three of them live together the rest of their lives? Did Sophie ever change her mind and have kids by Neil and El-Mudad? Did she find what she was going to do with the rest of her life? Questions, that I hope will become another book answered.

I loved this book so much. Neil and Sophie’s love story made me laugh some and also cry. The way they love each other is inspiring. I was disappointed when I got to the end of the book only because I didn’t want it to end. I hope this is not the end of there story, I would love to read more from Neil and Sophie, and Olivia.

While I started reading this series for the healthy representation of BDSM, I stayed for the characters. I love that the sex is part of the story, not THE story. The characters have realistic faults and conflicts and we get to watch as they work through them. I don’t think I could ever get tired of these books.

An emotional story with an amazing handling of the realities of triad relationships and how the rest of the world handles them. Plus, super hot ;) Always wonderful to see Neil and Sophie and their families again, and great to see the addition of El-Mudad and the mutual love that the trio has for each other *and* those around them.It feels a bit like a conclusion to the series — I hope not! But if it is, it’s a lovely one :)

When an expert witness was asked to appraise the value of ST. MARYS TODAY for the Civil Rights action brought by Levine Sullivan Koch & Schultz on my behalf - James Rouse, who was an executive with one of the largest media firms in the nation and former provost of Stanford, summarized the newspaper this way. He said he had never seen a newspaper with revenue from readers outweighing revenue from advertisers. That conclusion supported our slogan - Dedicated to Our Readers - When I sold the newspaper in 2010, the new owner appeared to have the financial ability and determination to continue the newspaper. He ran into various legal troubles and closed the newspaper eight months later. Anytime he wishes to return it to publication, I will be glad to assist him. In the meantime, I heard from many in the region wishing that actual news instead of pabulum from local media be reported. I heard from many folks elsewhere, outside of Southern Maryland, and beginning in the spring of 2014, my monthly publication, THE CHESAPEAKE was morphed into THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY and now covers crime in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia in print monthly and online always. The print edition is available on over 1,000 newsstands in all three states. All Crime, All The Time. That was just the beginning, before long the newspaper would be the target of an organized effort by a county sheriff and his deputies ad a candidate for states attorney to clean the newspaper off the newsstands the night before an election and results in a landmark First Amendment case which is now the law of the land."We can see this story is a story of a dying breed of newspapermen and women. There are newspapermen and then there are those who do not candy coat the news. This is when a newspaper took a side and the editorial staff didn't worry about the fallout. Ken Rossignal did a great job of showing it like it is and how newspapers should be run.

I have read quite a few of author Ken Rossignol's books and have to say that I have found "The Story of THE RAG!" to be one of the most interesting and enjoyable reads so far. I love little-known history and this story is a riveting one. The fact that Rossignol himself plays a big part in it is also quite intriguing.This book recounts the history of a small-town newspaper in Maryland that was run much different than any other. Pretty much a one-man show, run by Rossignol, the St. Mary's Today newspaper was known for its flashy tabloid-esque headlines and no-holds-barred news reporting. Readers seemed to love it, unless they were the ones being reported on. This is where the controversy arose. One story in particular, about a decades-old rape involving a now candidate for states attorney caused much contention. In fact, after a late night raid by a posse of deputies of all of the news stands just before the election, things got interesting. With the FBI now involved, Constitutional rights came into question.This was a fascinating account, not only of an interesting news story that I found pretty disturbing, but also of the rights of the newspaper to report the news as it saw it years later. The publisher's motives were called into question at every turn and this isn't surprising when people, good or bad, are fighting for their political lives. Another well written and fascinating account from Rossignol.

A fascinating read on how a small-town newspaper came to be!I have to say, although I knew nothing of this paper ("The Rag") and had no connection to it, the story was gripping nonetheless; I found myself eager to learn more about it. Ken Rossignol has, and willingly shares, an abundance of interesting stories about his newspaper.Definitely the reader will find some funny incidents and some somber ones to connect to. On occasion I was genuinely concerned for the welfare of the people Ken told about! There were some pretty scary situations, actually. We're talking about dealing with gritty events and shady people; drugs, murders, abuse, and more "dark side" matter.NOTE to the discerning reader: In addition to some of the topics mentioned above, there is on occasion some vulgar words, or references to them.I actually had both the audiobook and ebook version of The Story of the Rag. I decided to listen to the book as audio, but then I would flip through the ebook later for all the pictures and newspaper "toons" -- which really help to tie the whole book together. Both the audiobook and ebook make for a great-quality read -- no matter which YOU pick!Overall? Ken told about it ALL in a compelling way. He got me entangled in The Rag by the end, that's for sure.

I found it astonishing that Ken Rossignol managed to keep 'The Rag' ( St. Mary's Today Newspaper) going as long as he did, considering the style of writing he's used for this book. What should have/could have been an amazing tour de force of journalistic investigation and ethics, turns into a barely readable collection of anecdotes that omits so much of the "6 W's", I was forced to wonder how anything happened that honestly changed the system of "good old boy" cronyism in local Maryland politics.

As a former small town newspaper publisher myself, who was known for stepping on toes and exposing what public official's hand was caught in the cookie jar or under the wrong skirt, I related very well to Ken Rossignol's great book, The Rag. I've dealt with many of the same type of corrupt elected and appointed officials, including a county sheriff who stood in my office and swore to stop my car and shoot me dead some dark night.If you've ever wondered what it was like to peel the thin veneer of civility off a small town and look underneath, this book will do the trick. Ken Rossignol is the kind of courageous newspaperman I admire, and that I'd love to sit down and swap war stories with.Be warned, don't start this book unless you have time to finish it, because it is a fascinating read that I didn't want to put down. The only problem I had with the book was that on my Kindle, the editorial cartoons were hard to see, and they were very much a part of the newspaper's character. This is a problem with the basic Kindle, and they showed up much better on my iPad. But don't let that stop you, as I said, the story is fascinating.
