The branch of service info is all footnoted with reference to German regulations, and discusses waffenfarben, shoulder strap devices, "elite unit" insignia where it deviated from the norm, dates of issue when insignia details changed, collar tabs, cuff titles, and other misc. insignia associated with each branch. Jam packed with this information, the text is fully supported primarily by rare and unpublished wartime photographs. A colour photo section is included; the photos are a bit murky and the section is not greatly organized, but is a nice addition. There are also useful appendices and annexes giving a survey of numbered regiments of the various branches. All major branches that wore the AFV uniform (both field grey and black, as well as denim summer variants, all of which are discussed and illustrated in this book) are covered, and even the Propaganda Companies, with several rare photos of the AFV uniforms in use by an Armoured Propaganda Company. Most complete resource out there - be advised only Army formations are covered, no SS or Luftwaffe coverage - as the title very well states!

This is Volume 1 of 2. These songs are a must for anyone who wishes to better understand the musical and cultural history of the United States. These songs used to be taught in public school, but that is no longer the case. Make certain your family knows these songs! A very well written collection!

I had to buy this for my vocal class as part of my music ed degree, it's still pretty useful after graduation. Though these are simple songs, they're ones you can bust out at a party or a retirement home and everybody could sing along.Little kids love these songs as well, and since most are part of the American culture, they're important to learn from a young age. You might even surprise yourself and go down memory lane while looking through it!

Cool book, lots of Americana songs complete with lyrics and chords. I didn't realize that this one is pocket book sized, they do sell a full size version.

This is a nice supplement to the original book. All very singable songs. I like this collection.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the wind is one of my favorite movies. After seeing for the first time I was amazed that I hadn't seen it sooner. It had everything I like in a movie, a good premise, deep and emotional characters, amazing art work, a deep meaning, and an awesome soundtrack to boot. So when I heard that there was more to the story I went out and bought this book to see if it was as good as the movie. After waiting about a month for it to come in, I bought it on Amazon, I finally got it. I was not disappointed. Let's break this book down into categories.Art Work. The drawing pretty much, how do they look and how much detail is put into them. Miyazaki, I have to say, is a master in his field. All his drawings are extremely detailed and you can really get a sense of the surroundings. The characters emotions are brought out almost perfectly, especially the Nausicaa herself, who is shown as a powerful, yet fragile girl. Overall the drawings are almost perfect and I don't think anybody would disagree with that.Characters. I was already familiar with all the characters in this book, having seen the movie already. They are pretty much the same here as they are in the movie so if you've seen it, which I'm taking for granted you have, and then isn't much knew. They mostly do the same things as they did in the movie and feel the same emotions with a few fun differences, but nothing really is too different.Story. This book follows the movie almost exactly up to the point where Nausicaa and Asbel discover the underground system under the sea of corruption, or toxic jungle as it is called in the movie. There is one big difference that I must share, the Valley of the Wind is really an alley of Torumekia, and Nausicaa goes out to fight under Kushana agents the Doroke principalities, a nation not even mentioned in the movie. Other than that it follows the same story almost to the letter.Overall a very good and strong opening to the series. This entry doesn't really add a whole lot to the overall story if you've already seen the movie, but there are some important differences which mean you can't simply skip over it if you want to read the series.

You might be familiar with Hayao Miyazaki from many of the animated movies he has produced. Some of the most popular are Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle or even Laputa: Castle in the Sky. These are wonderful productions and some of my favorite stories. Miyazaki has a talent at drawing you emotionally into his world and to enchant you with a world so completely different from our own, yet so beautiful. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, his seven volume graphic novel series is no exception.There is something awesome about graphic novels, and that is that the author is able to show you exactly what is in or her mind. Like with a movie, you don't need to use your imagination but are able to drown yourself completely into the story. If you've never read a graphic novel before, I recommend that you do at least once. Choose a good one and see what you think. I'll guaranty that there's nothing quite like it.Nausicaa is one of those action packed stories that starts you off in a world and plot that is already very interesting, but that leads you into something that you could have never imagined. By the time you get to the end, you want to start over just to connect the dots. The characters are completely unique and Nausicaa herself, the main figure, is somebody to fall in love with. The people all around her adore her and you can't but help to feel the same way. I sometimes get annoyed with the humble, perfect do-gooder in the books that I read, but she is a gem. I wish all the authors out there were able to get me attached to a character the way Miyazaki offers us Nausicaa...I would cry at the end of every book that I finished.There is a distinct push toward 'saving the planet' in this story as well as - amazingly - some christian undertones. Not very Japanese if you ask me, but the mood and the symbolism are beautifully mastered and honestly, I got to the end of the last volume thinking that "Yes, I do want to live my life better, treating people and the world I live in with more respect." And that's the point here. It's not forceful in any way or overwhelming, but it's there and it demands the readers consideration. The question that Miyazaki poses to his audience - and you'll see this in all of his stories, in some form or another - is "What can you do to be a better person?"I don't know about you but I hate being told what I need to do. It's the universal source of annoyance and revolt to all people, I believe. It hurts my pride and tells me that I'm not doing things right or that I need to do things different. Sometimes it's called for but sometimes it's not and that depends on the situation. But it's hard for me to read something or watch or listen to something that is telling me I've got everything wrong and that I need to change my ways. It makes me feel like I'm being treated like a seven year old and am trying to learn math all over again...it's insulting. But pose a question, "What do you think about this..?" or "How would things be if..?" Ah! Now there's a different story.The way to change is for a person to feel it for himself, and that is what Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind brings to you. It's the story of a princess in a world that is so very foreign, there are giant bugs, there are manmade monsters, there are flying ships completely unlike any we have seen here, there are evil emperors and righteous warriors...everything you could ask for. And along comes the open-ended moral of the story, "We could probably do a lot better than what we are doing now. How will you choose to do your part?"Good question! Who'd have thought I'd be wondering that after finishing a book full of drawings done by some Japanese guy? I love this series, it's incredible and there's nothing else to say about it. I am fairly late to Nausicaa, having only seen the movie about 10 years ago. I find it a compelling story about what humans do to destroy their environment, even in decline. Anyway, I bought the book on a whim, thinking it would be a recap of the movie. Wrong: this is a much more detailed and different storyline. It answered some things that seemed to be missing from the movie, and creates a much richer world.I definitely like Nausicaa's impressive martial abilities, juxtaposed by her peaceful nature. The airships are almost Victorian science fiction, with lots of technology that can't be replicated anymore. The noble folks rising to meet their oppressors is something we can learn from.A bargain at ~$9 per volume, I am going to collect the whole shooting match. Great stuff.

My kid loves this movie and has loved it from the first day he saw it when he was about 10yrs old they are 16yrs old now..I finally broke down and bought the comics for him and they are amazing..the story goes way beyond the movie and tells a story that you never knew even..a must buy for fans. Worth every dollar for the whole collection.

I just wanted to note that this is volume 7 of 7 of part 1 of 5 of the 27-volume (meaning, this is #7 of 27 total). This is not #7 of the 7 consolidated volumes more commonly found on Amazon. This is a great comic, the greatest ever in my opinion, but I bought this particular item without looking at the number of pages it contained, thinking it was something that it's not! A nice edition though, a fine cover, with the manga itself printed in the original black ink (rather than brown, as in later editions), and then 5 pages of back matter -- a two-page note by Toren Smith, a 2-page ad, and the teaser for the next volume.

A former federal prosecutor, Paul Butler provides legal commentary for MSNBC and NPR and has been featured on 60 Minutes and profiled in the Washington Post. Paul Butler's "Chokehold: Policing Black Men" is a comprehensive study into the psychology of America's criminal justice (or injustice) system. In "Chokehold" Butler answers critical questions concerning the impact of the American criminal justice system on African American men. He provides well documented support for his conclusion that the system is designed to subjugate African Americans. Given the central role of race in the allocation of societal resources, Butler cogently argues that correcting this system is not merely a matter of clearing up misconceptions through dialogue or adopting modest reforms. Instead, he postulates that the American criminal justice structure must be restructured from the ground up. Butler effectively conveys the point that policing will not change significantly for African Americans until such comprehensive change happens. Until then, African Americans (especially African American men) will remain under a chokehold. I recommend this book.

This is an excellent book. It is essentially written for younger black males but is a useful read for anyone interested in racial/social justice IMO. Mr. Butler covers a number of issues around the criminal (in)justice system as it applies to black men but he also makes clear that black women are also victimized both from the color of their skin and their gender. In spite of being an old white male, I applaud Mr. Butler and other contemporary authors who continue to pull the cover back on the truly appalling situation we have in America regarding racial/social injustice. Given the politics of the day I fear it will get worse before it gets better. I encourage my fellow white people to read with an open mind and step up and speak out.

Chokehold is a great and necessary book to read even though the content is difficult. Anyone who doesn't understand why they kneel, whether appropriate or not, will understand after reading this well-written book. It made me angry, outraged, and very sad. It is a necessary book for anyone who cares about our failing criminal justice system

A devastating description of what it's like to be policed while black in the US. I couldn't help wondering whether some of the grander claims were overstated but then considered the evidence presented and found it difficult to dispute.

Imagine what things could potentially be like, or the much-needed changes that could be made if every black person, especially the prominent ones, exercised this sort of courage, ingenuity, and altruism. Props to Mr. Butler, and to this extraordinary Book!

Excellent and thorough anaylsis of an unjust criminal justice system towards/against black men but also take an introspective detailed look into the violent culture among black men. Highly recommended for anyone interested in a honest and forward think solution to the problems facing the criminalization of black men in America.

I bought this book as a gift for my husband along with some gardening tools. He LOVES this book! We have lots of deer on our property who even eat plants and shrubs that are supposedly deer resistant, so there is no way that we want to plant those that are deer candy! At any rate, not only does this book have excellent information about the plants that deer don't eat, but it also gives you ideas about the plants similar to the one you are researching that go well with it. It makes it very easy to plan a garden with this book, even for the beginning gardener. That being said, it is great for advanced gardeners as well. My husband is pretty particular when it comes to books, and has many other gardening books, but this has become his favorite. He is very impressed with how thorough and well organized the book is. Highly recommend!.

However, he struggles with the deer who roam through his property eating much of what he grows unless it is fenced. He likes the book'scategories, like ferns & bulbs, & wants to use the book to select better seeds for his wildflower border on the road to his property. He was most impressed with the categorization up to 10 of how deer resistant a plant was.

I have a lot of deer that roam through my back yard so wanted to learn what I could plant that would be deer resistant. This book gave me some valuable insight in what to plant. I realize it's no guarantee that the deer won't eat something, but I'm hopeful the ideas in the books work. I backed up these suggestions with buying a deer repellent spray. So crossing my fingers that all of my plants/flowers will survive this year.

It has been a very useful guide when I am advising my gardening clients. I also like that it suggests good plant combination in different settings and lights.

I bought this book after checking it out from the library and wanted my own copy. I wish it would have strictly focused on perrenials instead of splitting it up with annuals included. I'm not as concerned with inexpensive annuals but it's a minor complaint. Overall a good reference if you live in deer country like I do.

Good read. Worth the time/money spent. Definitely some plants I will try from this book, though I'm not really a fan of any of the shrubs listed.
