Great gift for girls who love ballet! A nice mix of beautiful, inspiring pictures and good information. Good gift quality/aesthetics. A nice mix of performance pictures (in costume) and pictures of boys and girls illustrating postures, steps, etc. For a boy who loves ballet, there may be a better book out there-- this one does have pictures of boys and men, which I appreciated, but it does seem skewed towards girls. A book more focused on male dancers might be more inspiring to a boy.

Very neat book! Lots of good stuff to help my daughter as she starts doing ballet again.

This book is very well written and has wonderful pictures. There are pictures of the author as a professional dancer but most depictions of styles and steps are of children in the Royal Ballet Academy, which makes it very accessible and inspiring to kids. Would appeal to both kids who are already taking dance and those who are just interested in dance. Has a lot of how-to and what-to-expect as well. Wonderful resource for anyone interested in ballet, no matter to what degree or in what level of experience. Very glad to have this in our dance/exercise library!

I'm shocked by all the good reviews. The illustrations are weird. The leg page has a close up drawing of a referee's crotch and legs. The rest of the body part illustrations are similarly off-putting. Very disappointing book.

This is a fun way to teach anatomy to a younger child. My son is only 10 months old right now, but he's still very interested in the book. The colors are attractive to him and he loves to help turn the pages. My husband really wants to teach him Spanish, so I got this book for the two of them to enjoy together. He seems to really enjoy reading it to him. I think we will be purchasing more Lil Libros books in the future!

This book is simply adorable and has wonderful pictures. My son just turned a year old and this book is wonderful for him. One word in English with the Spanish translation on the page and a colorful illustration of the body part. It's perfect for younger toddlers who just want to look at fun pictures. I'll definitely be buying more of Lil Libros books.

About the Author

Dinty W. Moore is the author of the memoir Between Panic & Desire, winner of the Grub Street Nonfiction Book Prize in 2009. His other books include The Accidental Buddhist, Toothpick Men, The Emperor's Virtual Clothes, and the writing guides, The Mindful Writer: Noble Truths of the Writing Life and Crafting the Personal Essay: A Guide for Writing and Publishing Creative Nonfiction. Moore has published essays and stories in The Southern Review, The Georgia Review, Harpers, The New York Times Sunday Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Gettysburg Review, Utne Reader, and Crazyhorse, among numerous other venues. A professor of nonfiction writing at Ohio University, Moore has won many awards for his writing, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Fiction. He edits Brevity, an online journal of flash nonfiction, and serves on the editorial boards of Creative Nonfiction and New Ohio Review. Just used this text to teach a Flash Nonfiction course this summer and I decree success! The structure (short craft lecture, essay, and prompt) works great for teachers and students. The book progresses in a way that helps students build their skill set as they fold in new techniques. I found that working in the flash form is effective because everyone gets to write a ton and share a ton. Also, (as a good text should, I think) Moore's guide leaves plenty of room for instructor personalization. I have found it easy to add readings or embellish lectures as suited the class. I chose to have a longer assignment (8-10) pages for the end, which I had them workshop in sections, i.e. mini flash essays, which then (viola!) created a longer one.In short, highly recommended for teachers, or anyone who wants to teach themselves a course. I wrote the prompts along with my students and wound up with tidy collection.

Many brilliant essays on the craft of writing followed with exercises and examples. I will return to this for reference again and again. I highly recommend for any nonfiction writer.

I absolutely love this book. I bought the e-book first and later went back for the paperback. Full of wonderful insights about the genre of flash nonfiction, as well as beautiful essays that tie into the lessons on the craft, this book is an amazing resource. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys writing (or reading) short essays. This book helped me in my nonfiction writing. I have used the exercises and techniques to write some short nonfiction pieces and have submitted them for publication.

I am a high school English teacher and I read this over the summer. LOTS! of great examples of short nonfiction pieces and very clever suggestions for assignment ideas. I can hardly wait to implement these ideas in my Advanced Composition class next year!

After attending three 8:30AM sociology lectures at my university, I dropped the course and bought this book.It was one of the best academic decisions I ever made.Instead of spending all semester writing essays that I don't care about, I spent about two weeks studying this book on and off and passed with a scaled score of 61.What worked for me was to read the book over the course of a couple days and take notes on it, primarily consisting of vocabulary terms with their meanings and the names of important people in sociology along with a bit about what they did. In the end I had 6-7 pages of typed notes, so I reviewed them and started doing practice tests. While doing the practice tests, I wrote down all my answers and marked the ones I wasn't sure about, then graded it. I then read through the solutions for every question that I missed or wasn't sure about (regardless of whether I got it right) and made sure I had a good idea of what each answer choice actually meant.Also, the practice tests seemed very similar to the real computer-based tests in terms of difficulty. I scored a 63 on the last practice test and a 61 on the actual test. For future readers, I took the test near the end of 2015.Study Tips:A good rule of thumb is that the earlier you see a name mentioned in the book, the more important it is that you know who they are. For example, Emile Durkheim, Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, and Max Weber will show up in multiple questions, while somebody like George Simmel probably won't show up at all. You can see this trend in the included practice tests.Spread your studying out over the course of a few days or even a week or so, it's easier to stay focused if you don't have to read the whole book in one sitting, but take the test as soon as you finish your studying so it's still fresh in your mind.If you don't have a firm grasp of the English language I would not recommend you take this test without much prep. Many of the terms can be figured out just by breaking them down into their roots, but having to memorize all of them would be terrible.Disclaimer: This is what worked for me and me alone, everyone is different, and if you fail it isn't my fault.

Hello,So I never write reviews for anything but I thought this one was necessary because I would like to help out my fellow clep test takers. I will first discuss how I studied for the test, and finally I will say if I recommend this book or not. So hello, I took this class because it was the last class in order for me to graduate, therefore the pressure was real. I studied for approximately two weeks for this test, but could have studied less. Now, I believe that everyone studies differently for tests and you have to do what is best for you. I barely passed with a 53/80 and thankfully I got my credits. I am really bad a multiple choice tests and I am the girl who is between two answers and chooses the wrong one.Anyways, if you want to be successful at studying for this test I would suggest purchasing two things: this book and the official intro to sociology clep exam study guide. Take the test without prior knowledge of anything and fail it. Then highlight all the words and people you don't know and study them. I would go to a library and get books. I would get any intro to sociology book and not read the whole thing (no one has time for that) just read the summary and vocab words. If you are going to read any chapters let them be the first one and the one where they talk about the most famous sociologists. TRUST ME YOU HAVE TO KNOW THEM (Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Talcott Parsons, Emile Durkheim) and if you learn about them they will be easy points for you.I used this book as a supplement but not really to learn anything from it. It is very basic and as the other reviewers said you definitely need more than just this. As I said, you know how well you are for tests and how you should prepare... and the practice tests do help.. between each test review words that you missed and people you do not know that will definitely help.Good luck you can do it!

I just passed the CLEP yesterday with 54. I am very happy because I passed it. However, I feel like there were a lot of materials on CLEP are not covered in this book. Probably this book is not up to date (it is published over 10 years from now). I used mostly this book and did the practice tests twice. I think it's very helpful to read the answer explanation on both the questions you got correct and wrong. I feel this way works best for me. I also YOUTUBE some videos, because I am a visual learner. If I need to give suggestions to someone who is going to take the sociology CLEP exam, I will say defiantly get a newer version study guide, remember what the famous sociologists did or their ideas, try to do a lot practice questions. You will be fine. Good Luck!
