Love the Best of Bridge cook books. Ordered as didn't have this one and there was a Brie recipe I wanted.

Great book

Classic, nostalgic recipes fill this cookbook. The hardcover, spiral binding is a nice touch. Enjoy classics like Artichoke Dip, Green Goddess Salad, Poached Salmon, Christmas Cheese Balls, Shortbread, Ceasar Salad, Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding. Whether you are cooking for a Holiday Brunch, Cocktail Party, Buffet, Potluck, Sit-Down Dinner or just using up leftovers, you are sure to find something here. I used the Cranberry Muffin recipe substituting milk for the orange juice and Chopped strawberries for the cranberries. My kids demolished them! The cookbook ends with a section on Food Gifts. This is a lovely chapter of Candied Almonds, Spiced Pecans, Cranberry Pistachio Bark, Toffee, Marmalade, Chutney and more. The "Novel Nuts" were a huge hit at the family Christmas dinner!This is a great, nostalgic cook that is great fun to read through and to cook from.I received a copy of this cookbook from Robert Rose, Inc. for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When a group of ladies gets together for bridge, it’s always a great time to bring delicious food and swap recipes. These ladies turned their favorites into a cookbook. The food in it reminds me of the foods I ate as a child at family and church get-togethers. The ladies’ motto is “Simple recipes with gourmet results” and I can tell these are the kind of recipes that are hard to make them wrong. It also has a lay-flat binding and large text which makes it really easy to see and read while cooking. I had turkey left over from Thanksgiving so I made the Quick Turkey Curry, which their addition of mango chutney made it really good. Since it’s holiday time, I also made the Good Old-Fashioned Gingerbread which was baked in a loaf pan. I sliced it and topped it with a lemon sauce and whipped cream, yum! Lots of good recipes and I also really enjoyed their fun and funny sayings that are the end of each recipe!

Finally a spiral bound cook-book with large print and clearly outlined recipes where the pages lay flat and allow the busy gourmand easy reading. This collection of holiday recipes is the latest addition to the Best of Bridge recipe series which emphasizes holiday preparations and treats. Following their mottoes of ‘simple recipes with gourmet results” the inclusions from casual to festive will tickle the taste buds. Recipes are included for buffet parties, brunches, traditional holiday meals, special Christmas and New Year’s Eve banquets and includes dishes for the vegetarians at the table. Unfortunately, no gluten-free instructions are included. Especially nice for this festive season are the sections on desserts, cookies, and food gifts. I especially want to try the Tiger Butter made with melted white and dark chocolate mixed with peanut butter. Variations of many of these recipes can be found in other cookery books, but it is nice to have a concentrated holiday collection at hand. While the pages are filled with many colored illustrations of the completed cuisines, the harsh brassy colors of the illustrations diminish the attractiveness of the recipes.

We love this cookbook! It's filled with recipes you need for holiday entertaining. This cookbook is great because it has tried and true recipes that will be a lifesaver come holiday time when you simply don't have time to test out recipes. I already have tried a few recipes ( Pomegranate and Feta Salad...amazing) and I'm hooked! It will be my go-to book this holiday season.

I bought this book not knowing what it was about. I had read Mark Rashid's two other books, and his name on this one was all I needed to make the purchase. I have already been educated and inspired from 'Considering the Horse' and 'Horses Never Lie' more than I have been from all other horse books put together. I knew 'A Good Horse Is Never a Bad Color' would be as good. I was not disappointed.Unlike the other two, though, this book covers a slightly different subject. While the others mainly discuss training attitude and problem solving, this one focuses on making good horses. It discusses practical issues such as choosing a good horse, imprinting newborns, early training, solving problems that might occur along the way, and even changing a bad horse into a good horse. Of course, Mark never tells you, "if you have a problem with that, do this to solve it." Instead, he writes in story format, recalling his experiences as they happened. This charming style guarantees the book unputdownable. Even if you are not into horses, you could read this book as an autobiography.In the last chapter, Mark concludes that it was 'the old man' who had passed on this gift to him. He hopes that through this book, he had been able to pass on the gift to the reader. But really, to learn the gift and use it, you must read all his books. They complete each other and deliver his message to the world: a horse will give his all to the person who talks to him in a language he understands. This book costs only $[money], but I would've bought it even it the price was $500. If you have to read only one book in your life about horses, make it one of Mark Rashid's.

This is a interesting book, although most of the information has been written about in current books and articles. The author wrote this in the '90's and then it was new, he brings to light that we should remember to deal with horses as horses, they are prey animals and subject to flight if necessary. He gives us reminders to work slowly and take all the time necessary so that the horse can understand, we do not speak his language, therefore we have to communicate in a way that our horse will "get it".I found the book interesting, though a bit choppy and I didn't know if the chapter was when he was young or when he has his own business. I will definitely read his other books, this is a wonderful reminder to horse owners that it take time to have a good horse.

Mark has a way of turning a very intuitive, whole body/mind/spirit way of communication with horses, into endearing stories-a story to each experience-and frequently an overview of lessons learned, or mistakes made.To understand what he is saying-is therefore not a difficult thing-but to put it into practice is a loving invitation towards thoughtfulness and mindfulness that makes our relationship with horses so much more rewarding. Something within the grasp of every human being and a worthy goal.

This is one of those great books that can reach across all interest groups and walks of life. The way the author relates his personal stories to shed light on horse training really drew me in. But, not only do these stories relate to dealing with animals, they are like Easop's fables... there is a nugget of wisdom to be taken away and stored for you to use dealing with people and struggles in everyday life. He has great insight into behavior of those around him, not only the horses, but the wisdom of the old man. We could all learn something from this book and I'll definitely buy his other books. I had to doctor a sick calf just a few days ago, and I used some of the patience and techniques he uses on the horses, and I felt like the calf whisperer! Instead of it being a grueling chore in freezing weather, I really started to feel a sense of accomplishment that I was helping an animal.

As I commented in review on Horses Never Lie -- love the format, Mark's writing style, & "training" stories with the "old man"! Continues to reinforce the theme that "bad" horses are due to bad (human) attitudes, ignorance of how horses think, & what our "proper" relationship with them is! Weird thing is, "The Tao" just keeps coming through -- & has helped me understand It, The World of Equus, & myself. And like everything else -- It can't be rushed!Peter L. Brown, DVMUGA '87

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in horses. It was amazing, sad, inspirational, happy, funny and a million other things! I picked this book because it was the 2nd book to a series, Considering the horse is the 1st one. I loved both books and I hope to read more of them.

I have long been a fan of natural horsemanship, and have read John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Monty Roberts. I learned a lot from each, but always felt that something was missing. Enter Mark Rashid. Rather than profess that we should be alphas (harsh, dominating leaders), he argues for a passive leadership where respect is gained from consistency and kindness, and so true partnership becomes possible. This book is wonderful to read for pleasure (I devoured it in 2 days), and also has very practical insights into common problems. My relationship with my horses is already the better for it. So much for the other books on my shelf--I won't be referring back to them again!

I always wondered why all the well meaning horse people I had known tried to teach me how to train a horse and it just never felt right. It went against the grain for me. When ever I tried to do it the way I felt was right I was told it was wrong. I was told that you have to have complete control over something that weighed 1200 pounds or more or get hurt. That not being the boss was spoiling a good horse. This book makes more sense to me than any book I have ever read on the subject. I finally feel good about the way I always trained my horses!

I knew next to nothing about the battle of Borodino before I read this book. I knew it was a large battle of Napoleon's Russian campaign and it was depicted in War and Peace, but that was about it. After reading this book, Borodino is one of my favourite battles of all the Napoleonic wars. In fact, this book is among the best accounts of Napoleonic combat I have read, second only to Bernard Cornwell's superb Waterloo. Borodino is a lot like Waterloo: A titanic, bloody struggle fought all day long between two large armies determined to win for their country.The book is entirely about the battle of Borodino, and is not a book on the whole Russian campaign. The battle itself is covered in most pages of the book, and multiple black and white illustrations supplement the text nicely. Both the Russian and French order of battle is shown at the end of the book. The cost of Borodino was staggering: 80,000 or more French and Russian soldiers killed or wounded in just one day. Think about that for a minute. It was far worse than Gettysburg, Antietam, or Shiloh when it comes to 19th century battles. It even surpassed Waterloo and Austerlitz in carnage of other Napoleonic battles.But I absolutely loved this book. For Napoleonic buffs, it is a must buy. It should be shelved alongside other military classics. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Another excellent book we needed years ago. Of course there are dozens of books on Borodino battle of the Napoleonic campaign if 1812 - but this one by an outstanding historian provides so much critical information and analysis from the Russian view point that it is essential - I love the cover by Verischagin and have an exact version of it made in Zinnfiguren. - I envy professors of Russian history today for the new scholarly works they now have available.I wrote a lengthy review on my web site some years ago.

READ CAREFULLY> This is an well written history but as someone earlier commented the proofing on the Kindle edition is horrible! Less than 12% into it and it's missing letters! "Flank" becomes "lank". "Fire" becomes "ire". "Satisfied" is "satisied". It's like reading a third grade spelling quiz. This edition does the author an atrocious disservice. It's not like you can't figure out the words. But do you really want to spend your money on such a poorly produced product?

From a content and quality of writing viewpoint, book this book is excellent. Using Russian sources adds something extra to the content. The writing style flows well and is very readable. On that basis, I recommend this book. Unfortunately, I bought the Kindle edition of this book and the typesetting has a massive, annoying flaw... many f's are missing, e.g., instead of "drawing the troops fire" it is "drawing the troop's ire". Argh. didn't anyone proofread the Kindle edition? I hope the print edition does not have the same flaw. In particular, it is most, but not all, f's before the letter i or l that are missing. I know that in standard typesetting there is a special 'combined' f+l and f+i character that is used. Whatever the publisher did to produce the Kindle edition screwed up royally here. The weird thing is, not all 'fl' and 'fi' combinations are messed up, but the majority of them are. The publisher really needs to fix this. Too bad Amazon doesn't have a way to push a 'reprint' update to me automatically. After the Borodino book, I was planning on also reading the author's work on Berezina as well. Now, I am a little leery about spending the money and finding out if that book has the same problem.

Well researched, well written, endlessly interesting! A Wonderful history of one of the mist important battles of the Napoleonic Wars and the 19th Century. Filled in with informative charts and appendices. Great maps and illustrations. But Too many formatting errors and missing letters. Why is this still the case for so many great Kindle books?

Very informative, with old sources newly available after the Soviet collapse. Very good choices of first hand narratives from participants on both sides.But most impressive is the orderliness of the book. In this regard, the best battle book I ever read.

James O. Aldrich (Doctor of Public Administration, University of Laverne) is a retired lecturer on statistics and research methods at California State University, Northridge. He has also taught graduate level research courses for the University of La Verne. Dr. Aldrich held the appointment of Instructor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine where he served as the Principal Investigator and codirector of a National Cancer Institute research project. He has served on various committees for the Los Angeles chapter of the American Statistical Association and has also taught biostatistics, epidemiology, social statistics, and research methods courses for 20 years. The primary computer program used for his coursework has been the IBM SPSS Statistics software package. At the risk of aging myself, it's been quite a few years since I've used SAS or SPSS. Once upon a time I'd probably fall under the category of advanced user especially during phd studies but over time, used it less and less. Although the fundamentals remain the same, the specifics look different which is where this comes in....nice quick refresh. Easy to follow, clear and concise. Being a full-time student, I buy a ton of books I also find myself doing a lot of outside research because many of the books I've purchased are simply not thorough enough. I also understand that when covering material that has to be learned during a 16 week semester, it's often not possible to cover every aspect of that subject. In reality, I've come to expect that outside research is a necessary evil.This is absolutely not true for Joomla 3 explained. I'm in my last year before graduation, and I can honestly say that this book ranks right along side of the top 2 or three textbooks I've purchased. It's written in a clear and concise manner, and almost every page is part of a valuable exercise. Stephen Burge took great pains to make absolutely sure the book was written in a way that literally anyone who has an interest in the subject can come away from this book knowing that if they didn't have a rock solid understanding of the material, then they really didn't have the interest to begin with. I can't say enough good things about this book. In addition, if you really want drill down and get a greater understanding of the most complex topics concerning Joomla, the book is full of references to online Joomla resources and forums.This book is pure, 100% gold. If you have questions about anything that I may have missed in this review, please feel free to ask.

How many times have I gone to a source for an answer and been told, "....well, all ya gotta do is....". Sure easy for them so say; they use this stuff every day. So it was wonderful to find a book that lays things out in a simple and practical manner. Not that the text does not have its short-comings. Sometimes the author makes a point and then OVER-makes that point as in the case of explaining that format is consistent throughout the JOOMLA program. It would have been nicer if the author had used that energy to tweak some of the smaller issues like "how do I turn-off the details in an article?" and "How do I post a picture?" The answers were there but a bit buried. All the same, the tenor of the writing is easy-going and not condescending and is basic without being primitive. I'll accept some need for polishing and proofing as long as I get this information I need, and this book had it.

The author does a great job of walking the reader through a logical progression of steps to learn the basics of Joomla as well as best business practices for planning, creating, maintaining, and securing Joomla websites.

This book was a great overview of Joomla! Someone else had created my company website that I am now responsible for. I saw that this book was soon to be released, so I was anxious for it to come out. After struggling through Joomla! on my own, this book really gave some good tips that were extremely helpful, especially the CASh workflow (Categorize, Add, Show). I read through the book, but have not yet put many sections to use. There is so much to Joomla!, but the book made it easy to follow step-by-step. However, when selecting article types or module types, the author tells you which one to select, but not why. So with one of 12 options, we only used one, and I have no idea what all the other options are for. I was hoping to be quite proficient by the end of the book, but I now know that I'm only scratching the surface. I will continue to use the book as a reference, hoping to grasp the bigger concepts.

The most useful Joomla resource I have found. It answered all my questions. I often go back to it as a reference. Use it to get you started with Joomla.
