A total waste of money. Includes a CD which only has hyperlinks to a non-existent web site, the contents of the CD is contrary to what is described on the back cover. Email's sent to the publishers regarding the CD were ignored.Do not include this book in your library. The Delphi Online Help is of better value.

I was very dissatisfied with the content of the book. The examples given were very rudimentary and offered less than the Delphi help file.

This compendium of the norse kings' chronicles is a great effort to keep the flavor and literary rhythym of the original works by Snorri Sturluson.The extensive annotations and clarifications make this an ideal reference work for navigating the labyrinth of icelandic and norse sagas and other literature from the Scandinavian side of the sea. It's an ideal companion to an aggregation of the norse sagas. If this volume has a shortcoming, that is that it lacks what all of the present-day renderings of the related body of literature could have to add interest for the novice: up-to-date maps keyed to the individual chronicles. But in fairness, that could be a volume in itself, for sure!Criticism of this translation of the Snorri's chronicles of the lives of the norse kings as "victorian" is not very insightful. First, the Victorian era ended with the 20th century (Queen Victoria died in 1899). This volume dates at the earliest back to 1932.Second, expecting a translation that reads like Harry Potter does a major disservice to both Snorri's and the editorial board/translators' efforts. It might make for a more casual read, but that isn't the purpose of this volume. Perhaps a version of Clif's Notes or a lighter pictoral Marvel's comics edition will be forthcoming...

I rate translations of historical document based on the importance of the original, the readability of the translation, and the availability of better translations. In rare cases, I also look at the fidelity to the original (in cases where I have read the material in the original language). This work gets 3 stars.On the first element, Heimskringla is is of enormous importance in both mythological and historical studies relating to Viking and Medieval Scandinavia. Snorri's account begins with a mythological account of the gods euhemerized (as in Edda) in the Ynglinga Saga, and then goes through the history of the kings of Norway starting with Harald Fairhair. The material is of tremendous importance and even later sagas in the series have proven important in folklore studies.However the translation was made at a time when it was fashionable to provide very flowery translations of sagas and other Old Norse documents. The goal was to make the work feel classy and old. Unfortunately this greatly hurts its readability and, as Einar Haugan pointed out in his essay "On Translating from the Scandinavian," this approach fails to note that in their day such works did not have such a feel and hence a more direct translation is often better. Hence I think that the fidelity and readability issues are worth treating this edition as less important than it would be otherwise.Finally there are other translations out there which are more recent and reflect a better understanding of the Old Norse documents in their historical context. For this reason, while this is't a BAD addition to one's library, I would recommend other translations instead.

A huge book full of great maps and even greater stories!

This is the best history book that I have ever read. It is very full of history and details without any author input of personal opinions. I have been doing genealogy and this book has cleared up some questions that I could not find answers to anywhere. The book is well worth it for anyone into history or genealogy.

This book was well worth the money. Even though a used copy, it was in excellent condition much better than I expected. This is a fairly good translation of the Heimskringla, but I wish the editiors would have included more in the way of introductory, background and critical material. Granted there is a little, but I would have like more. But this might not be a problem for most people. If you don't have a lot of money to spend, I would go with this edition.

As usual the book is filled with quirky characters, including Captain Widdershins and his constant use of the word "Aye" and his motto "He who hesitates is lost", Phil, who sees the bright side of everything, and Fiona, who knows an awful lot about mushrooms. Viola, Klaus and Sunny are all growing up, with Viola and Klaus showing interest in the opposite sex and learning that maybe their parents weren't perfect after all. Sunny is speaking more and more clearly and while it's still fun to try and decipher what she is saying, it's a lot easier than it was in the earlier books.These books are not just for children, as an adult, I really enjoy this series. I really liked this book, but it left a lot of questions that need to be answered in the two books remaining in the series. This book does end on a happier note than any of the previous books, which I found intriguing. I can't wait for the next one!

It was sticky the entire book and I think it was the ripped stickers? I was unaware it was from an library so it was covered in other tapes and stickers or stamps that wont come off and I literally can't even touch it because I am allergic to the adhesive it is covered in. I couldn't be more dissapointed and it should have been listed as a lesser quality than what was sent.

Who doesn't like Lemony Snicket? I'll just take this moment also to say that everyone should get the audio versions that are narrated by Tim Curry. They are awesome! Tim Curry narrates like no other.

Even though Olaf was in this one he wasn't in it quite as much, it felt like, and so it ended up being quite an interesting change for once.

The author manages to touch on all the body parts needing attention from neck to toes, leaving me feeling stretched, strengthened, balanced, and energized. No props, special clothes, or other equipment are needed.The book comes with a 15" CD that is both quickly paced and peaceful. First, you learn the exercises by reading the book. This should take a few days to feel comfortable with the exercises. I want to stress again that modifications are included so that anyone can do these. Then, once you are familiar with the stretches, you can "whisk" through them peacefully (I know it sounds impossible, but it's not!).I love this series (called "A Morning Cup" series with compact and value-packed books like this on Pilates, Massage, Meditation, Balancing, Stretching, Strengthening, and Tai Chi, too) and this book especially!*****

I saw A Morning Cup of Yoga in the window of a bookstore in the mall a number of years ago. I really liked it from the moment I saw it. I had misplaced that copy and looked in all my bookcases for it, but didn't find it. I looked on Amazon and not only found it, but the rest of the books in a series. These small books are brought to life by physical therapist(s) and experts in their fields. The copies I ordered are in excellent condition and I would recommend ordering from the people who sell books. I reordered two for my daughter who is interested in keeping her body in tune. One of the very best things about the books is some authors have connection to the University of Alabama.

A respected yoga teacher, who has never recommended any thing, brought this book to class.No special props are needed. You can do this routine in 15 minutes, in your pj's, in the kitchen, a bathroom (with a tub), or on a deck. I checked with my teacher about the breathing techniques and she said to stay with the silent breath until I am fully comfortable with all of the positions and then add the more advanced breathing. I do the routine on days that I do not attend a yoga class. I am noticing my strenghth and flexibility are increasing with the added 15 minute routine. The illustrated "routine at a glance" in the back of the book tucks into a purse, pocket, or suitcase so practice can be done while traveling.!

I'm in my fifties, and have been intrigued about yoga for some time, but knew very little about it. A month or so ago, I conducted a yoga book search here at Amazon, sorting the results in bestselling order. While scanning the resultant list, this book caught my eye. In the three weeks or so since it arrived, I've done the routine each morning in my kitchen. I've done workout routines in the past, but for the first time, there are no portions that I dread doing. In fact, I look forward to getting out of bed in the mornings and doing the "morning cup." As Jane Goad Trechsel suggests, I have noticed improvements in flexibility, and can do poses that were at first difficult. From the very first day, I have been amazed at how effortlessly I move and walk after completing the "morning cup." Thank you, Joan!

I am very happy with this little book. I purchased it used from a seller who explicitly stated that the CD was included as that was important to me (extras are often not guaranteed for used items). The book is well-written and safe and easy to follow for a yoga beginner like me. It includes a "cheat sheet" with small thumbnails of all the different positions (useful if you don't get the CD with purchase). I use the CD (transferred to my mp3 player) to follow the routine, and it helps keep me focused and the routine exactly 15 minutes. My flexibility is improving and it is a nice start to my day. As promised, it is very easy to do right in your kitchen, no special clothing or equipment needed. It uses only standing and seated positions, so you don't have to worry about having to lie down in whatever might be spilled on the floor or having the dog lick you.
