It's like reading a slow moving train, but the train takes you across the entire planet. We start off with a powerless boy, who over the course of the series slowly reaches the basic level of others.What I find unique here, is that the MC doesn't become super power boy overnight. Each book is another level up for him (kinda like gaming, I guess), but it happens gradually, and we get to experience it with him. There's a lot of detail on each of his levels. The magic system is well developed, and each book is a unique plot with new magical aspects.The characters are nicely drawn. There are several backstories and subplots running around in the background.All in all, it's a great book of poor boy fighting his way to the top with all he's got, and still fighting after that, because he's got an Ultimate Goal to reach.Great book. I definitely recommend it.
I picked up this collection on sale. I'll often impulse buy authors I've never read if the price is right. And I'd heard of Will Wight, so I was expecting this to be a decent enough read.I didn't expect to spend the next week tearing through the entire set of 3 books, only to be desperate to read the rest of the series. I guess you'll be getting some of my money after all, Mr. Wight. :D
A wonderful distraction, there aren't enough hours in a day handle it, couldn't put it down and it ruined my sleep for a week. Bravo!It nails all the elements for an epic fantasy with a good mix of action, cleverness and humour. Characters are likable, relatable and true.To nitpick, i had a problem understanding the scale. Power levels of "enemies" and characters in general aren't consistent as the definition of how strong each level is changes from book to book and becomes ambiguous. I mean if "iron" is already so strong that a normal person has no chance of winning, it becomes difficult to imagine how strong the next 10 levels are. Besides that, all characters seem to think the same way, almost like they're all the same character in different bodies. No paradigm variety between them.However, the characters are certainly not boring and while no one can accuse it of being mature, the story is fun mix of action, fantasy and adventure. I loved it!
I have really enjoyed reading some of the other book series by Will Wight. He has the ability to write great characters and interesting plots that carry the reader forward from book to book. The Cradle books are a whole different animal. The premise of entire worlds being devoted to power and growth as sacred artists just doesn't sound all that interesting. I tried to explain it to my wife, she though the books sound awful. I got her to start reading, and she loves them. Mr. Wight has done a fantastic job here. Bravo!
Will Wight's the gold in the deluge of literary dross of internet publishing. Highly recommend this series as well as his House of Blades. The characters are engaging and the stories well narrated. The worlds and inherit magic systems are truly enjoyable in their uniqueness. I've reread them numerous times and they still stay fresh. Complaints? They're quick reads and if you don't force yourself to put them down they'll be over too quickly. And I think he stops writing to eat ... and maybe sleep.
So much awesomeness in this book. We see more character development and back stories than perhaps any other book in the series so far. I enjoyed Lindon's journey of discovering his new path and parking all the cool stuff that Eithan can do. I think I enjoyed it more than underlord.
I LOVE these books! I just finished this for the 2nd time leading up to the release of his latest books! This series is becoming my favorite and most anticipated series! Will Wight is an incredible author!
Everyone should read the Cradle series! These books are immensely fun. Very lit-RPG-esque because the main character wants to level-up to face the big bad at the end. I highly recommend this series, with five books now available.
